Wondering how you guys block a 2 shell defense on the perimeter. What would your base rule be. OF course there are adjustments based on Game Planning and how things play out during a game.
Do you send wide outs on stalk block of Corner & slot arc block Safety?
Do you send switch block sending Slot to Corner and Wide Out to Safety?
Do you have slot and wide out read it on the run with one or the other assigned to first threat?
If and when you make adjustments what do you usually base them on?

We'll have Slot take easiest relaese to LB. If LB dissappears, slot will work up to safety. SE will push CB with his eyes on Safety and crack him. If the Safety is a great alley player we'll crack him immediately. We feel that our QB/Pitchbacks should be able to wiggle and get extra yardage vs a CB. The push/crack by the SE also sets up playaction Skinny Post to him when the alley player is trying to beat the crack. I'm interested to hear what others do as well.

This situation for us would apply to an "arc" option type of scheme for us:
We try to switch it if there is a true 2-safety look with the safety deep enough to crack, but I do not want to force a bad crack situation if the safety is in a position that would make it difficult to get him.
We let the SE decide and ask the slot to read off of him. The slot will open to arc and take a peak at the SE, if the SE is going inside to the safety then the slot thinks arc to the corner NOW which will probably be a kick-out block. If he sees the SE staying outside on the corner then he knows he is arc-blocking to the safety now.

We automatically go to the arc scheme versus Cover 2.
As part of our overall perimeter blocking scheme the RB will check the coverage. If it is Cov #2 he will arc block. If it is Cov #3 he will count, 3 or less Seal block, anything bigger than a 3 count and he will arc
Another reminder I have given them is to check Dive read - Pitch read - Oh nuts. If you get an oh nuts you have to arc him. This help when there is no WR to the playside.
...C.........................................................F.................................................C.......<- OH nuts (ARC) ............................W.....................M.................S..............................$........<- PITCH READ
..........................................E........T..................T......................E......<- DIVE READ WR.....................................T......G.......C........G..........T......TE ....................................RB...................Q................................RB ...........................................................F

Oh nuts? thats not what I said. Most coaches (especially me) need there language censored. I do do a fairly good job not cussing on the practice or game field. Even when we get sacked by the scout team and my head coach is threatening to fire me again!

coach, I know what you mean on the language. When I got out of the Army, I really had a terrible time with it (this was the late 60's). I think most of us coaches try to refrain from that kind of language but it DOES slip out at times. Nobody will hold it against you.

we always read the safeties.
vs. 2 safeties we will switch block it vs. 1 safety we will load block it. vs. 4 across look we will read it on the run.
we use hand signals between the slots and wr's to confirm blocking assignments. we do it on both sides to not give away direction of the play. K.I.S.S. method with my rocket scientists.

Coaches,
We do what you guys do. (1) WR on CB, HB on SS (2) WR crack SS, HB arc to CB (3) WR outside release to P/A player, HB arc to FORCE (we are reading on the run, here)
We also do something a little unique as a change up against a Cover 2 Cloud team. We reduce the split of the WR to create a "mini-bunch" with the HB. From this, the WR will OUTSIDE release on the CB (forcing him to loosen slightly) and arc the HB to the CB.

the only problem we had with having the slot arc the safety and corner stalk the corner was against a team that would blitz the corner and have the safety be the deep defender. the corner would creep in and blitz and the wr would not be able to get there to block him.

We also automatically "arc" when we are in this formation:
...........................................T......G.....C......C.......T.........................WR..............WR .....................................RB.................Q..................RB
..........................................................FB
Before we made this an automatic arc we had a Pitch intercepted for a TD because the $S got inside the #2 wr. Lost a playoff game becasue of it!

I'd like to have the slot read the split end. The corner blocking the deep defender and the slot basically blocking the force defender. But wouldn't the split end go behind the corner if the corner forced? I thought that was the definition of a push crack.
