Our QB this season will be Jr. that has grown substantially. He's been the Frosh and JV QB running the option and making the reads since his first game, he's got a darn good arm, 3-sport athlete, so we have 2 years invested in him. It's not a problem for us but he's grown now so he's 6-6'1", 210-215, and running a 5.0 40. He's a good runner with deceptive field speed. He's 15 and won't be 16 until week 4 of this season. He is one of the charter members of the new HC's weight programs with 820 lbs in the press, clean, and squat. Only he an 1 OL got past the 800 so far.
So, we've got a big boy with an arm running the offense now. No real replacements visible right now. We don't have a speed back right now and the other backs are close clones at 5'10-6'1, 190-210, same speed. We look to be pounding the ball with a fairly interchangeable backfield.
We use I, 'bone, and flexbone, and run the triple , lead, midline, trap, dive, and wedge.
I don't view this situation as a bad thing at all, but was wondering what adjustments you might make if this was your QB?
Thanks

Our QB's have not always had great speed (when it comes to 40 times) but some of them were good athletes who could make plays in space. The important thing is that your QB makes good decisions with the football.
If your guy is a physical runner I would run the "you know what" out of the midline. Especially the midline variation with both RB's inserting or blocking for the QB. Get that big body going down hill. Run for 3 yards, fall for 2 and its 2nd and 5. I'll take that ALL NIGHT.
It's always nice to be able to throw the ball, I think the threat of the pass will make up for any short coming he may have.

Sounds like our QB last year. If he hadn't won the QB job, he would have been our Left Tackle. I've always been told to put your best athlete at QB when running an option offense. We stuck with the bigger, slower (but decent arm) kid because he was by far the most disciplined and made the best option reads. He was only a Soph and knew he wasn't counted on to be the big play maker, just to distribute the ball correctly to the other guys that were expected to make the big play. We still ran triple option and mixed in a lot of play action passes. I'd say we threw about 15 times a game all PAP off Veer action. He was a load to bring down and had no problem breaking a tackle when the DE was trying to play both FB and QB. He could often fall forward for positive yards.
Basically he was not what I would picture when thinking of an option QB, but was the key to our success.
