How do you teach the double team? How do you drill it? Do you talk about different tech vs defensive strategies - ie drop and roll, duck and dive, squeeze the base blocker. Our biggest problem is getting the two big butts together to DRIVE. One guy invairably slides/falls off. Thanks

we teach hip to hip. elbow to elbow. we find that gives to areas to make sure there is conact. We drill it everyday, we alos teach to block the Dline in a combo situation with the body and LB's with eyes.
Our drill we start with is a progression drill that starts with the fit position and works back words. once they get the idea of how the fit/drive feels then it was easier to get them to get in that position from a stance.

I agree with Rebel, we do it almost exactly the same way. Hip to hip and I also tell the guys to each attack a # while keeping your eyes up looking for a backer.

we teach our ol to go hip to hip, shoulder to shoulder, there goal is to sweep the down linemen vertically.
I work a lot of tandem blocks with our OL, two linemen on one DL and a LB.
Blocks we work are: combo, scoop, double team, fold, eat block etc...

I may teach this a little differently. Everything starts with the first step--their feet must come together on the snap of the ball. My post man blocks as if he is getting no help. I want my linemen to be hip to hip, but my drive man's aiming point is the defender's near hip (I want my shoulder on the front of his near hip, and my earhole on the side of his near hip). This makes it virtually impossible for the defender to split the double team (the two linemen are almost "overlapping") nor will the defender be able to make a pile (because I am trying to knock his hip into the linebacker, so he can't drop into the double team). It is impossible for the defender to hold his ground with someone in his chest and in his hips.
