How do you teach blocking technique for a playside guard who has a 3 technique in the triple option without a tightend to the playside? I am looking for techniques so I don't have to combo the 3.

If Im understandin g your question correctly, hard to do with out combo block. Risking too much penetration...running the midline to him would be a better option in my opinion. Either way, the 3 tech will be wrong and you dont have to block him at all.

In the Triple our guards have the rules: PSG drive on #1, we don't care where the guard drives him as long we have a hat on him. The BSG's job is drive on #1/cut. If #1 lines up inside the BSG he will cut him.

3 Technique-- There are 2 things that we did with a 3 technique when running the triple. 1. If we had a guard who could not handle a 3 technique by himself we folded; tackle down on the 3 technique and guard stepped around for the LBer. 2. If we had a big good guard who could handle most 3 techniques we used a base-combo scheme; guard would base the 3 technique the tackle would step with his inside foot and help the guard secure the 3 technique as he worked to the LBer. Sometimes it was enough for the Tackle to just push the 3 technique to the guard. Gunther Publishing www.optionfootball-publishing.net
